Six-cylinder petrol engines
Removal
Remove the generator.

Unscrew a nut and remove a wire from conclusions "B +" the traction relay of a starter (fig. 18-22).
Disconnect the electric socket from conclusions "50" traction relays of a starter.
Unscrew bolts of fastening of a starter and remove a starter from below of the car. The lower bolt of fastening of a starter also the wire of connection with "weight" fastens (engine / transmission).

Installation
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal, taking into account the following.
Tighten bolts of fastening of a starter the moment of 65 N · m.
Tighten a nut of fastening of a wire to a conclusion "B +" the traction relay of a starter the moment of 16 N · m.

Six-cylinder diesel engines
Removal
Remove the generator.

Unscrew a nut and remove a wire from a conclusion "B +" the traction relay of a starter (fig. 18-23).
Disconnect the electric socket from a conclusion "50" traction relays of a starter (see fig. 18-23).

Unscrew the top bolt with a nut of fastening of a starter to the transmission (fig. 18-24).
Unscrew the lower bolt of fastening of a starter and remove a starter (see fig. 18-24). The lower bolt of fastening of a starter also fixes a wire of connection with "weight" (engine / transmission).

Installation
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal, taking into account the following.
Tighten bolts of fastening of a starter the moment of 65 N · m.
Tighten a nut of fastening of a wire to a conclusion "B +" the traction relay of a starter the moment of 16 N · m.

Eight-cylinder petrol engines (3,7 and 4,2 l)
Removal
Remove the generator.

Unscrew screws and remove a casing of the engine (fig. 18-25).
Weaken collars and remove the air inlet branch pipe connecting the air filter and the case of throttle knot.

Unscrew bolts, remove a casing of the fan of a radiator and move it aside, without disconnecting from it wires (fig. 18-26).
Remove a casing from a rack of a suspension bracket and the case of the air filter.
Install holders of V.A.G 3180 on the engine.
Check that all electric wires, hoses, branch pipes and pipelines were disconnected from the engine.
Suspend capture on таль with a loading capacity not less than 500 kg and fix it for holders on the engine.
Establish on support of racks of a forward suspension bracket an adapter 10 - 222A/4 and the load-lifting device 10 - 222A for support of the engine.
Suspend on the load-lifting device capture 3033 and fix it on the engine.

Unscrew a connecting nut and disconnect a fuel-supply line from the regulator of pressure (fig. 18-27).
Insert an additional hook of the load-lifting device 10-222A into an eye on pressure regulator.
Rotating the screw of the load-lifting device 10-222A, lift capture 3033 and an additional hook the engine so that the weight of the engine and transmission was perceived by the load-lifting device.

Unscrew the lower bolts (fig. 18-28) of fastening of the engine to the lower frame.

Unscrew bolts of fastening of the right support of the compensator of torque (fig. 18-29).
Rotating the screw of the load-lifting device 10-222A, lift the engine so that support of the engine separated from the lower frame.

Unscrew bolts of fastening of the right support of the engine and release clips of fastening of wires (fig. 18-30).

Unscrew a nut and remove a wire from a conclusion "B +" the traction relay of a starter (fig. 18-31).
Disconnect the electric socket from a conclusion "50" traction relays of a starter (see fig. 18-31).

Unscrew the lower bolt of fastening of a starter to the engine (fig. 18-32).
Unscrew the top bolt of fastening of a starter to the transmission.
Unscrew two bolts and remove a starter.

Installation
Installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal, taking into account the following.
Tighten bolts of fastening of a starter the moment of 65 N · m.
Tighten a nut of fastening of a wire to a conclusion "B +" the traction relay of a starter the moment of 16 N · m.

Check and removal of the traction relay of a starter
Remove a starter.
Using additional wires of big section, connect the starter case to the negative plug of the rechargeable battery, and the positive plug – to a conclusion "50". If at the same time the driving gear wheel of a starter moves forward, but the engine of a starter does not rotate, so the anchor of a starter is faulty or burned contacts of the traction relay.
If the gear wheel of a starter does not move forward, so the traction relay failed and it needs to be replaced.
Unscrew a nut and disconnect the wire going from the starter electric motor to the lower contact of the traction relay.
Unscrew screws and remove the traction relay from a starter.
