1.10. Automatic transmission
The control system of the automatic transmission provides various programs of work of the transmission. Depending on actions of the driver or traffic conditions of the car the program is chosen: economic, cutting fuel consumption, or active which it is conditionally possible to call "sports".
The choice of the program of work of the transmission is carried out automatically according to kind of work of the driver an accelerator pedal.
At the slowed-down or normal kind of work an accelerator pedal thanks to early inclusion of higher transfers and late transition to lower transfers the possibility of economy of fuel appears.
The so-called "sports" program of work of the transmission is chosen in that case when control of a pedal of an accelerator is exercised rather sharply. At the choice of the "sports" mode engine capacity reserves thanks to some delay of switching to higher transfer are completely used.
Program of the manual choice of transfers (Tiptronic)
Existence of the sekventalny mode of gear shifting (tiptronic system) gives the chance to the driver manually to switch transfers.
It is possible to pass to the program of manual switching both on the motionless car, and at its movement; for this purpose it is necessary to translate the selector (fig. 1-29) from a position D to the right. At gear shifting on the display it is specified what transfer is included (fig. 1-30) at present.

When moving the selector forward (+) (fig. 1-31) transfers consistently increase, when moving back (–) – consistently go down.
At dispersal of the car 2, 3 and 4 transfers shortly before the achievement moment the engine of the most admissible frequency of rotation automatically join.
If the driver passes to lower transfer, the control unit of the transmission will include this transfer only when there is no danger of "retwist" of the engine.
On the display in a combination of devices number of a position in which there is a selector is displayed.
During the movement of the car never you transfer the selector to a R or Ruble position.
Р – parking blocking
Driving wheels are blocked.
The selector should be installed in this position only at a full stop of the car. Before inclusion and switching off of a position P it is necessary to press the blocking button on the selector handle. Before switching off of this position at the included ignition it is necessary to press a brake pedal in addition.
R – backing
It is necessary to include only at a full stop of the car and during the operation of the engine idling. Before transition to a position R from positions of P or N it is necessary to press a pedal of a brake and to press on the blocking button in the selector handle.
In a position R at the included ignition backing lamps burn.
N – neutral position (idling position)
At a selector conclusion from a position N at a speed of movement up to 5 km/h, and also at the motionless car and the included ignition it is necessary to press on a pedal of a brake and the button of blocking on the selector handle. It is not obligatory to press blocking when the selector is transferred from a position N to positions D the button.
D – long advance
Four transfers switch automatically with low to higher and vice versa depending on load of the engine and speeds of the movement.
Under certain conditions the movements expediently temporarily to use one of the positions given below.
3 – a position for "hilly" sections of the road
It is recommended when in certain traffic conditions at position of the selector in a position D there is a frequent switching with 3 to the 4th transfer and vice versa.
For transfer of the selector to this position it is necessary to press the blocking button in the selector handle. Automatically switch 1, 2 or 3 transfer depending on load of the engine and speeds of the movement up and down, the 4th transfer is blocked. Thanks to it also efficiency of braking by the engine increases at fuel interruption in supply.
2 – a position for mountain sections of the road
It is recommended at long rises and descents. Automatically switch up and down the 1 or 2 transfer depending on load of the engine and speeds of the movement, 3 and 4 transfers remain blocked to prevent unnecessary switchings to the highest transfers. At the same time efficiency of braking by the engine also increases.
1 position for mountain sections of the road with big biases
It is recommended to choose this position when driving on steep slopes and descents. To include this position, it is necessary to press the blocking button on the selector handle. The car moves only on 1 transfer, 2, 3 and 4 transfers are blocked to prevent unnecessary switchings to the highest transfers. At the same time the greatest possible efficiency of braking is reached by the engine.
The cruise control in a position of 1 selector cannot be used.
At manual consecutive gear shifting on decrease it is possible to pass to positions 3, 2 and 1, however automatic switching to lower transfers happens only in that case when after switching the most admissible frequency of rotation of the engine is not exceeded.
Device of compulsory anticipatory switching to lower transfer (kik-Down)
The device provides the maximum acceleration of the car in these traffic conditions. As soon as the effort to a pedal of an accelerator exceeds a certain threshold value, depending on the frequency of rotation and speed of the movement there is a switching to one of lower transfers. Switching to the following, higher transfer will follow only at achievement of the most admissible value of frequency of rotation of a bent shaft of the engine.
On the slippery road compulsory anticipatory switching to lower transfer can cause pro-slipping of driving wheels.
Recommendations about the choice of positions
Launch of the engine
It is possible to launch the engine only at position of the selector of management in a N or Ruble position.
Movement of the car
For transfer of the selector to one of positions of the movement at the motionless car and the working engine it is necessary to press a brake pedal.
At the choice of a position at the motionless car it is impossible to press an accelerator pedal.
If during the movement of the car the selector is incidentally transferred to a position N, before transfer of the lever to any position of the forward course it is necessary to release a pedal of an accelerator and to reduce rotation frequency to idling.
At the working engine when the selector is in any of positions of the movement, it is necessary to hold the car pressing a brake pedal as even idling the engine torque transmission on wheels is not interrupted completely – the car "creeps".
If at the motionless car one of positions of the movement is chosen, it is impossible to press at all an accelerator pedal (and to increase fuel supply by a hand from a motor compartment), otherwise the car will begin the movement even at the switched-on parking brake.
Before carrying out any actions with the working engine, it is necessary to install the selector in a position P and to turn on the parking brake.
The movement from the place
Choose one of positions of the movement (R, D, 3, 2, 1). Wait for inclusion of transfer in the transmission and the moment of a start of motion of the car (at the same time the weak breakthrough is felt) and only then press an accelerator pedal.
At a short-term stop, for example in front of the traffic light, there is no need to pass to a position N. It is quite enough to hold the car pressing a brake pedal. The engine has to work in the idling mode.
In order to avoid uncontrollable rolling the car after its full stop always turn on the parking brake. In addition put the selector of the automatic transmission in a position P.
On the road with a bias include parking a brake, and then install the selector in a position of parking blocking. Thanks to such operations procedure the blocking mechanism will not be too strongly loaded, and subsequently it is possible to bring the selector out of this position easily.
Towage for the purpose of launch of the engine
Towage or pushing of the car with the automatic transmission can never lead to launch of the engine.
At the discharged rechargeable battery for launch of the engine by means of connecting wires it is possible to use the battery of other car.
