18.3. Dismantling and assembly of a damping rack

Fix a damping rack (fig. 12-5) of a forward suspension bracket in adaptation fixed in a vice and by means of special V.A.G 1752/6 adaptation squeeze a spring so that it departed from the top part of a rack. When using special device for compression of springs rounds of a spring it is necessary to take and squeeze reliably a spring from the opposite sides.

Prevention
The spring has very big effort of compression therefore use only very reliable tool. Do not connect a spring by a wire at all.

Having recorded a key a shock-absorber rod from a provorachivaniye, by means of other cap key or a special key 3353 unscrew the central nut of fastening of a rod of the shock-absorber (fig. 12-6).
Remove the expansion plug, the top support of a damping rack, a washer and the top support of a spring from a shock-absorber rod.
Remove a spring together with the device for compression of a spring.

Remove the protection cover 1 (fig. 12-7) and the lower support of a spring 2. Using the plastic hammer, bring down the lower plate of a spring 3 up.

Installation
At installation it is necessary to use on one axis of the car of a spring with identical technical characteristics (with marking, identical on color).
Check the shock-absorber for lack of dribble of liquid. Check on all length a shock-absorber rod for lack of pointed corrosion. Check the shock-absorber case for lack of mechanical damages. Install the shock-absorber in vertical position and check its work, moving a rod at full capacity, and also up and down at the length of 50-100 mm. In all cases the rod of the shock-absorber has to move smoothly, with a notable resistance. If the rod of the shock-absorber moves breakthroughs or there are mechanical damages, the shock-absorber should be replaced.
Fix the shock-absorber in a vice with soft sponges.

Install the lower plate of a spring on the shock-absorber so that the opening in a plate of a spring was perpendicular to an opening in a fork of the lower fastening of the shock-absorber, at the same time clips have to settle down from an opening (fig. 12-8). The deviation of the center of an opening in the lower plate of a spring from a vertical has to be no more than ± 2 °.
Establish the lower support of a spring and the protection cover.

Establish a cylindrical spring so that its lower end correctly settled down in the lower plate of a spring (fig. 12-9).
Install the top plate of a spring so that the axis passing through fixing carving racks settled down parallel to an axis of the lower fastening of a damping rack. The deviation no more than ± 2 ° is allowed.
Holding a shock-absorber rod from a provorachivaniye, screw a new nut with a fillet of fastening of a rod of the shock-absorber and tighten its moment 50 N · m (see fig. 12-6).
Being careful, remove the device for compression of a spring.

Check that the top round of a spring correctly settled down on the top plate of a spring (fig. 12-10).
Install a damping rack on the car.
