7.6. Fuel pump / fuel level sensor

Prevention
The power supply system is under pressure. Before separation of elements of system it is necessary to take off pressure in system. For this purpose close the place of separation by pure rags and, being careful, smoothly unscrew connection.

On models with petrol engines the fuel pump together with the fuel level sensor (fig. 4.1-9) is installed in the fuel tank.
The potentiometer and the related float enters a design of the fuel level sensor. At reduction of amount of fuel the float falls, potentiometer resistance at the same time increases, tension on the index of level of fuel located in a combination of devices goes down.

Note
At installation it is necessary to use new laying, sealing rings and a cap.
Removal
Before a detachment of the rechargeable battery find out whether you have a code of turning on of the radio receiver.
Switch off ignition and disconnect a wire of "weight" from the rechargeable battery.
Remove the casings of the fuel pump / fuel level sensor located on the right side under a luggage carrier carpet.
Using the special tool 2012A, unscrew a cover 8 (see fig. 4.1-9) the fuel level sensor, turning it clockwise, uncover 8 and a spring 7, located under a cover.

Passatizhami take out the fuel level sensor 5 and disconnect from it the electric socket (fig. 4.1-10).

Disconnect the electric socket 1 from the case of the fuel level sensor (fig. 4.1-11).
Unscrew a hollow bolt and disconnect an auxiliary tube 2.
Unscrew a hollow bolt and disconnect a tube 3 supply of fuel.
Disconnect a tube 4 returns of fuel.
Using the special tool 3242, unscrew a connecting nut 12 (see fig. 4.1-9) fastenings of the block of the sensor of level of fuel / the fuel pump.

Unscrew a bolt 1 on several turns, but do not unscrew it completely (fig. 4.1-12).
Press down a bolt to separate the fuel level sensor / the fuel pump from a connecting payment of the fuel tank.
Completely unscrew a bolt.
Raise the fuel level sensor / the fuel pump and remove laying.
For extraction of the sensor of level of fuel / the fuel pump move it up, turning clockwise.

Installation
You carry out installation to the sequences, the return to removal.

Before installation check that the tube of supply of fuel was fixed by a clamp on a connecting payment (fig. 4.1-13). For this purpose it is possible to use a bulb and a mirror. If the tube is not fixed by a clamp on a connecting payment, then it is impossible to install correctly the fuel level sensor / the fuel pump and a connecting payment it is possible to damage at installation.
Replace sealing rings of the block of the sensor of level of fuel / the fuel pump.
Check that the electric socket of the fuel level sensor was from above and did not fall in the fuel tank in the course of installation.
Install the fuel level sensor / the fuel pump as follows.

In a starting position the union of a hose has to settle down on the left side of the car (fig. 4.1-14).
At installation of the sensor in the fuel tank turn it on 180 ° counterclockwise, at the same time the union of a hose has to settle down on the right side of the car, and tags 2 and 3 (see fig. 4.1-14) have to be combined.
Press the fuel level sensor / the fuel pump down, at the same time the tube of supply of fuel of the pump will be pressed to a tube of giving of a connecting payment.
The bolt has to be established easily and without special effort to be screwed up in a connecting payment.
After check of correctness of installation of the sensor of level of fuel / the fuel pump raise it a little and establish new consolidation in a nest of the fuel tank.
Again install into place the fuel level sensor / the fuel pump.
Establish a new sealing ring on tightening a bolt and check that the pipe of the limiter was located in a bolt. Keep in mind that the pipe of the limiter is established not on all models.
Establish and screw in tightening a bolt.
The special tool 3242 tighten a connecting nut of fastening of the sensor of level of fuel / the fuel pump the moment of 70 N · m.
Tighten a bolt the moment of 23 N · m.
Connect the electric socket to the case of the fuel level sensor (see fig. 4.1-11).
Connect an auxiliary fuel tube and fix it by a hollow bolt with new sealing rings (see fig. 4.1-11).
Connect a tube of supply of fuel and fix it by a hollow bolt with new sealing rings (see fig. 4.1-11).
Connect a fuel return tube.
Passatizhami lower into place the fuel level sensor and connect to it the electric socket (see fig. 4.1-10).
Establish a spring and, using the special tool 2012A, screw up a cover of the fuel level sensor, turning it counterclockwise.
Connect a wire of "weight" to the rechargeable battery.
Turn on the radio receiver and enter into it a code.
