20.4. Steering mechanism
Removal
The steering mechanism is removed together with steering drafts and the shock-absorber of the steering mechanism.
Before a detachment of the rechargeable battery find out whether you have a code of turning on of the radio receiver.
Switch off ignition and disconnect a wire of "weight" from the rechargeable battery.
Establish wheels for the movement directly forward and take out a key from the ignition lock. Slightly shake a steering wheel here and there in order that the steering column was blocked.
Screw-driver edge as the lever remove a decorative fringing of casings of a steering column.

Unscrew the screws fixing a decorative lower slip under the dashboard from the driver (see fig. 14-4).

Unscrew a nut 1 (see fig. 14-8) fastenings of the universal hinge of a steering column.
Weaken an eccentric bolt, turning it clockwise, and take out it.
Weaken bolts of fastening of a steering column.
Moving down, remove the universal hinge of a steering column from a shaft of the steering mechanism.
Remove consolidation of a steering shaft in the car.

Weaken bolts of fastening of forward wheels, lift a forward part of the car and fix on supports. Remove forward wheels.

Using clips 3094, press pressure head and returnable hoses of hydraulic system of the amplifier of steering (fig. 14-12).
Unscrew bolts of fastening of steering thirsts for rotary fists and squeeze out steering drafts (fig. 14-13) down.
On cars with diesel V6 TDI engines remove engine thermofilters which close access to bolts of fastening of the steering mechanism.

On the right side of the car unscrew bolts of fastening of steering transfer (fig. 14-14). For simplification of access to a bolt remove a fuel pipe from the holder and move it aside.
On the left side of the car unscrew bolts and remove a part of the casing closing an arch of a wheel (fig. 14-15).
Establish under the steering mechanism capacity for collecting the following liquid.

Through an arch of a wheel unscrew pressure head and returnable hoses of hydraulic system of the amplifier of steering (fig. 14-16) from the steering mechanism.
In the presence disconnect the electric socket from Servotronic valves.
Through an arch of a wheel unscrew two bolts of fastening of the left side of the steering mechanism (fig. 14-17).
Disconnect the steering mechanism from the lock mechanism from a reverse side of the accumulative camera.
Remove the steering mechanism from the car through a wheel arch.
Installation
At installation it is necessary to use new nuts, sealing rings and collars.

Before installation of the steering mechanism establish a lath in average situation, unscrew a carving stopper and instead of it manually screw in adjusting V.A.G 1907 adaptation (see fig. 14-19).

Install the steering mechanism and fix it the lock mechanism from a reverse side of the accumulative camera.
Fix the steering mechanism by bolts, having tightened them in the sequence And, In and With the moment of 70 N · m (see fig. 14-17).
Release the mechanism of adjustment of a steering column and establish it in the situation close to horizontal.
Install the universal hinge on a steering shaft, insert an eccentric bolt, turn it counterclockwise, screw a nut on a bolt and tighten its moment 40 N · m (see fig. 14-8).
Unscrew adjusting V.A.G 1907 adaptation, instead of it screw in a carving stopper in the steering mechanism and tighten its moment 12 N · m (fig. 14-19).
Further installation is carried out to the sequences, the return to removal, taking into account the following.
Add liquid in hydraulic system of the amplifier of steering and remove from it air.
Check hydraulic system of the amplifier of steering for lack of leaks.
Connect a wire of "weight" to the rechargeable battery.
Turn on the radio receiver and enter into it a code.
Lift glasses power windows up to an emphasis. Then press all switches of a window regulator once again, at least for 1 second, in the provision of closing for activation of the control unit of window regulators.
Determine time on hours.
