19.1. General information
On the AUDI A8 cars install tubeless radial tires and disks of various sizes.
When replacing a disk or the tire surely replace the rubber valve with the nipple.
During an initial stage of operation new tires do not provide sufficient coupling with a paving; the first 100 km it is necessary to move with a moderate speed with extra care – during this period of the tire "are arrived". Implementation of these recommendations promotes increase in service life of tires.
In use tires are subjected to tests on durability therefore there can be punctures, cuts, gaps and swellings. It is necessary to delete foreign matters from a protector of tires regularly.
To avoid damages of tires and rims, it is necessary to overcome slowly and whenever possible at right angle curbstones and other similar obstacles.
Often tires and disks have the hidden damages. Emergence of unusual vibration or withdrawal of the car can indicate damage of the tire aside. In this case it is necessary to reduce speed immediately! Check tires for absence of damage (cracks, swellings, etc.). If no external damages are revealed, slowly and carefully follow to the nearest enterprise of car service for careful check of a condition of tires.
It is necessary to avoid contact of tires with oils, lubricants and fuel.
Instead of the lost dustproof caps it is necessary to put new caps immediately.
Before removal of wheels it is necessary to mark them that at the return installation it was possible to keep the former direction of rotation of tires.
The removed wheels and tires should be stored pure and dry, it is better in the dark room. The tires which are not mounted on disks should be stored in vertical position.
Before removal of wheels increase pressure in tires by 0,3–0,5 bars.
At installation of tires with the directed drawing of a protector (they can be recognized on an arrow on a sidewall) it is necessary to provide the necessary direction of rotation of the tire thanks to what optimum "behavior" of the tire on the road, coupling with the road, noiselessness, transfer of traction effort will be reached, at hydroplaning.
Service life of tires depends in many respects on air pressure in them.
It is especially important to support the recommended pressure in tires at the movement at a high speed. It is regularly necessary to check pressure in tires, at least once a month and before each distant trip. Do not forget to measure pressure and in a spare wheel.
Pressure should be checked on cold tires. At elevated pressure in heated tires it is impossible to let out the air from the tire. Pressure in tires is changed according to car loading.
Too low or too high pressure in tires reduces the term of their service and worsens road performance of the car.
At the long movement of the car with a high speed of the tire with excessively low pressure strongly heat up. It can lead to a separation of elements of racetracks of the tire and even to its gap.
Too low pressure promotes the increased fuel consumption.
Overcoming abrupt turns at high speeds, sharp dispersals and braking also increase wear of tires.
The deviation of angles of installation of wheels from standard values causes not only the increased wear of tires, especially unilateral wear, but also promotes decrease in traffic safety.
Wheels of the new car are balanced. In use the car under the influence of various reasons balancing of wheels can be broken that can be noticed on deviations in normal work of steering.
The imbalance of wheels leads to the increased wear of details of steering, tires and suspension brackets of the car therefore it is necessary to balance wheels. Vibration of a steering wheel from an imbalance of wheels is shown in the certain range of speeds and vanishes at decrease or increase in speed. Balancing of wheels is necessary also after installation of the new tire and after each repair of the tire.
